Babcock and the mother of William W. Babcock, manager of the Rothert company furniture store in this city, died on Sunday afternoon at 2.45 o'clock at her home, 1511 Eighth street, death being due to heart trouble. Mrs. Babcock had been in failing health for the past year and her condition during the past ten days was critical. Mrs. Babcock was a sincere Christian woman and bore her suffering with the same fortitude that marked her entire life. She was born near Boalsburg, Centre county, Nov. 16, 1856. Her girlhood was spent in that community up to the time of her marriage forty-four years ago, to Edward O. Babcock, and with him she came to this city to reside. Her entire residence here was passed in the First ward, where she had scores of friends because of her cheerful and neighborly disposition. She was for many years a member of the Chestnut Avenue Methodist church and since its organization a member of Grace Methodist church. She was devoted to her family and home and her demise is the first to occur in that circle. She is survived by her husband, one son, William W., two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Moore and Miss Bessie, both at home, and by two sisters, Mrs. J. L. Calvert of 514 Twenty-third avenue, and Mrs. Edward Burchfield of near Bellwood; also by three grandchildren, Marguerite V. Babcock and Kenneth E. and Robert T. Moore. The funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock with services at the home. Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery. Altoona Mirror, February 28, 1921
