Baker, of Roaring Spring, died at her home at 6:15 o'clock Saturday evening, after a lingering illness of rheumatism, as her husband and other members of the family watched at her bedside. She was a daughter of William and Barbara Smouse and was born near Woodbury, October 31, 1841, where she grew to womanhood. On April 29, 1863, she married Andrew N. Baker. About four years after their marriage they began farming near Henrietta, which they followed until 1903, when they moved to Roaring Spring. She is survived by her husband and the following sons and daughters: William, of Waterside; John, of Erie; George and Franklin, of Cleveland, O.; Mrs. A. H. Stoner, of Clover Creek; Harry and Mrs. S. S. Kauffman, of Roaring Spring, and Miss Ellen, at home. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Theodore Snoeberger and Mrs. Daniel Burket of Martinsburg, and Mrs. Alexander Barnett, of Paola, Kansas. She became a member of the Hickory Bottom congregation of the Reformed church in 1862. After moving to Roaring Spring she united with Christ Reformed church. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. E. Stone, assisted by Rev. Dr. D. S. Shoop, pastor of the Church of God, at her late home on Tuesday at 2 p.m., and her body laid to rest in Greenlawn cemetery, Roaring Spring. Martinsburg Herald, July 10, 1914
