We are pained to chronicle the death of that estimable youth [sic] lady, Miss Mollie Barley, daughter of David K. Barley, which occurred on Saturday at 9 a. m., just one day after she was stricken with paralysis. Everything was done that could be done for her restoration. Her physician, Dr. Garver, had a consultation with Dr. A. S. Smith, of Altoona, but they entertained no hopes for her recovery. She passed away peacefully. Her father's family as well as the community was shocked with the rapidity of the disease. Miss Barley was an amiable, kind-hearted and good person, and was beloved by all who came in contact with her. Her cheerful disposition had the tendency of making every person happy who came into her presence. It may be truly said of her that "None knew her but to love None named her but to praise." Her funeral occurred from her father's residence the National hotel on Monday at 11 o'clock a. m. Her pastor, Rev. E. Dutt, preached a funeral sermon in the Lutheran church to a very large audience and her remains were interred in the cemetery at Roaring Spring. Fifteen years ago when she was quite young she gave her heart to the Lord, and united with the Lutheran church at Potter Creek, Bedford county, by confirmation, then under the pastoral care of Rev. Charles L. Streamer. She was prayerful, however, was often kept from her religious duties at the sanctuary by burdens and cares of a busy, active, industrious life. Her loss will be deeply felt by all. Her age was 26 years 1 month and 10 day. Farewell Mollie thou hast left us, Here thy loss we'll deeply feel; But 'tis God that hath bereft us He can all our sorrows heal." Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday, January 27, 1887, page 4
