Barnes, one of Tyrone's most respected citizens, died at his home at 1515 Pennsylvania avenue, Saturday night at 11:25 o'clock from general breakdown. He was a son of John and Eliza Parsons Barnes and was born near Clearfield on September 10, 1841. He was married at Centre Hall, June 15, 1869, to Miss Urbane Mattern, of this place. Deceased had been a resident of Tyrone since 1871. He followed the shoemaking trade for many years. Mr. Barnes was a most consistent Christian man and up until recently had never missed a church service. He was a member of the Bible class of the late A. A. Stevens, esq., of the First Methodist Episcopal church, and was considered an authority in the interpretations of the Scripture. He leaves his wife and the following children: Mrs. J. H. Mitchell, of Washington avenue; Claude, of Jersey City, N.J.; Mrs. Harry Wilson and Mrs. Merrill Harper, both of Pittsburg. He also leaves one brother, William, of Moxham, a suburb of Johnstown, and two sisters, Mrs. J. H. Harrison, of Wilkinsburg, and Mrs. Agnes Moore of Pittsburg. Deceased was a veteran of the Civil war and belonged to Col. D. M. Post, No. 172, of Tyrone. Funeral services will be held from the late home tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of his pastor, Rev. George M. Glenn, of the First Methodist Episcopal church.
