The funeral service of Mr. James Barr was held at the residence of his brother, Mrs. Joseph Barr, in Gaysport, on Sunday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock. Mr. Barr died on Saturday morning, at the age of 68 years. He was one of the oldest citizens of the community. He enjoyed a good military record, having been a member of company H, Third regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers, during the three months campaign and re- enlisted in company A, Eighty-fourth regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers. He performed his duty as a soldier, and was wounded in the leg at the battle of Winchester, March 23, 1862. Notwithstanding his wound was a severe one, he refused to be entertained in the hospital, preferring to remain with his faithful regiment and share with it the hard knocks and privations of the campaign. He remained true and faithful to his country's service until the expiration of his term of service, when he received an honorable discharge.
