Whilst at work, he had occasion for the use of a hatchet, and proceeded up stairs for the purpose of procuring that article. The day was a cold one and some snow sticking to the heels of his boots, in coming down the stairs, they being very steep, he slipped and fell to the bottom, his neck striking the sharp edge of the hatchet, severing the main artery. His wife being badly frightened, he told her he was not much hurt, and that it was only a flesh wound. A Doctor was immediately sent for, but before his arrival, and in about ten minutes from the time of the accident, the vital spark had fled. He leaves a wife and one small child. His family have the sympathy of the community. Truly in the midst of life we are in death. The Register, Hollidaysburg, Pa., Wednesday, December 18, 1872
