Cambria Freeman, Ebensburg, Pa., Friday, January 9, 1903 DOCTOR BARRON DEAD. The Able Pastor of Hollidaysburg Presbyterian Church Forty-One Years. Rev. D. H. Barron, D.D., who was the able pastor of the Presbyterian church at Hollidaysburg for forty-one years, died at his home in that town at 5.30 o'clock Saturday morning, from pneumonia, his illness covering only a few days. His death was quite unexpected, his condition not being considered dangerous until Friday afternoon. Born August 29, 1828, Dr. Barron at death was aged 74 years, 3 months and 5 days. David H. Barron was the son of John and Jane (Ferguson) Barron, and was born at Pine Grove Mills, Centre county. He was reared in Centre county until he arrived at the age of 13 years, when he accompanied his father to Fulton county, where he remained several years. In 1852 he entered the Jefferson college at Cannonsburg, Washington county, from which he was graduated as a member of the class of 1855. Immediately upon graduation he entered the Allegheny Theological seminary, from which he was graduated in April, 1857. He was ordained in Redstone in 1858. In the same year he was called to assume pastoral charge of the Presbyterian church at Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland county, and served that congregation until 1861. On May 26, 1861, he preached, by invitation, in the First Presbyterian church of Hollidaysburg, and on August 4, 1861, received a call from the congregation which he accepted. Though his ministry began in September, he was not installed until November, 1861. On Tuesday November 12, 1861, he was formally installed by Revs. G. W. Thompson, G. W. Zahnizer, David Sterritt and D. X. Junkin, and continued as the faithful and highly esteemed pastor of that congregation until his death. On September 2, 1858, Dr. Barron was united in marriage with Mary J., daughter of James McCullough, of Cannonsburg, Pa., (who survives) and the fruitage of this union were a son and two daughters, Jane P., who died about one year ago, Eliza M., at home, and James M., who is manager of the factories of the Diamond Match company, at Biddeford, Maine. The funeral services will be held in the First Presbyterian church on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. James H. Mathers, D.D., of Bellwood, has apprised the members of Huntingdon presbytery of the death for appropriate action. The funeral arrangements are in charge of the church session.
