James Barry Run Down by a Car Last Evening. James Barry, a well-known resident of Hollidaysburg, was fatally injured on the railroad at that place at 7 o'clock last evening. He was crossing the railroad tracks at Montgomery street, and stepped out of the way of an approaching train, when he was struck by a box car that was being shifted on another track. He was knocked down, the wheels passing over his right leg below the knee, crushing it in a frightful manner. The right arm was also mangled. The unfortunate man was placed on an engine, brought to this city and admitted to the hospital, where he died at 9:40 o'clock. No attempt was made at amputation, as it was seen at once that his injuries were fatal. Mr. Barry was 84 years of age and had been a resident of Hollidaysburg for more than twenty years. For many years he was engaged in driving cattle. He is survived by his wife. The remains were given in charge of Undertaker Lafferty this morning to prepare for burial. They will be shipped to Hollidaysburg this evening and be interred tomorrow. The coroner has decided an inquest unnecessary. Altoona Mirror, Wednesday, September 27, 1899, page 1
