Beam, 76, of 4733 1st St., S.W., Washington, D.C., for many years engaged in the restaurant business in Altoona prior to 1936, died Tuesday in the Hadley Hospital, Washington, after several months' illness. He was born in Johnstown Jan. 9, 1882, a son of Dr. William C. and Clara (McPherran) Beam, and first came to Altoona to serve as a clerk at the Logan House. Subsequently he operated hotels in Atlantic City, N.J., and restaurants in Altoona. Mr. Beam was of the Methodist faith, a member of Hiram Lodge, F. and A.M.; the Valley of Harrisburg, Scottish Rite, and had served as steward of Jaffa Shrine temple. Surviving are his wife, the former Nan Rich; three daughters and one son, Miss Pauline, at home, Mrs. Joan Wetterau of Glen Burnie, Md., Mrs. Virginia Findley of Pittsburgh and Frank, Jr., of Tehran, Iran, and eight grandchildren. The body will be brought to Altoona but the time has not yet been determined owing to transportation difficulties in Washington because of the weather.
