All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ DEAD: - Miss Catharine Beech, whom we noticed in our last issue as having been seriously injured by the cow-catcher of a locomotive, on the evening of the 18th ult., died from her injuries about 8 o'clock P.M., on Friday last. At first when her system reacted she refused to allow amputaiton to be performed, and would not consent until several days had elapsed. In the meantime mortification had commenced in both legs, and before a line of demarcation had formed a pre-requisite to amputation at that stage - her spirit fled from its frail tenement of clay. Her sufferings were intense, but we trust they have been to her but the prelude to an eternity of joy and happiness beyond the skies. Her remains were interred in the Lutheran Burying Ground, in Collinsville, on Saturday last. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., March 4, 1858, page 3
