On that morning, about two o'clock, Mr. David Beightel awoke, and discovered his wife, Mrs. Salome Beightel, was up, and standing by the bedstead. He inquired what she was doing, when she told him she was attending to the babe, which was not in good health. He noticed that she appeared a little queer, when he told her to come to bed. She then laid down beside him and he went to sleep. He awoke about daylight, and missing his wife, he searched through the home, and not finding her he awoke the children. They then proceeded to the basement, and from there to the cellar, where they found her body suspended by a rope around her neck, which was fastened by a spike in the joice, her feet and knees on the floor. The vital spark had flown. Mrs. Beightel had for some time been afflicted with dyspepsia and was at times in low spirits, which no doubt led to this unfortunate occurrence. An inquest was held on the body, and a verdict rendered in accordance with the above facts. Mrs. Beightel was aged about forty years, and the mother of eight children, ranging from four months to seventeen years. She was an estimable woman, and the whole community deeply sympathize with her bereaved husband and orphan children. The Register, Hollidaysburg, Pa., Wednesday, March 10, 1875
