He was born at Henrietta July 18, 1842, and was united in marriage with Margaret Trecsh in the year 1880. He was twice married, his first wife being Ella Falknor who died in 1877. Mr. Benner had been sick for about three years and was a very patient sufferer. During all that time he was never heard to complain of his lot. The cause of his illness was bone crysipelas [erysipelas] in his foot which in course of time poisoned his entire system. His pastor, Rev. C. E. Heffieger took a very suitable text for his funeral sermon: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." Mr. Benner was a very quiet and modest man and a good neighbor and friend to all. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Reformed church for many years. His funeral occurred at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, December 28, when services were held in the Henrietta Church of God, conducted by C. E. Heffieger, assisted by Rev. A. L. Simmons. Interment was made in the Nicodemus cemetery. Martinsburg Herald, January 6, 1911
