Sudden Death Saturday Evening of an Estimable Lady. On Saturday evening at about half-past 7 o'clock Mrs. Bridget Benson, wife of David Benson, of 605 Third avenue, accompanied by her youngest daughter and a young friend, left her home in her usual health to go to the west side of the city for the purpose of doing some shopping. Just after having crossed the Ninth street bridge she was seized with sudden faintness and fell to the sidewalk insensible. She was quickly carried to the house of Hamilton Orr, 812 1/2 Eleventh avenue. What means were at hand were resorted to to revive her, and a physician was immediately summoned, but before held arrived death ensued, heart disease being the cause. The body was removed to her home later in the evening. Mrs. Benson had a large circle of near relatives and friends who were greatly shocked when the sad news reached them. She had long been a resident of the city and was a woman of many good qualities which endeared her to all with whom she came in contact. A devoted member of the Catholic church all her life, she never, when health permitted, neglected the strict performance of her religious duties. The mother of a large number of children, she devoted her life to training them. The husband and family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their sudden bereavement. Deceased was born in County Louth, near Ardee, Ireland, fifty-eight years ago. At the age of 16 she emigrated to this country and nearly thirty-seven years ago was married to David Benson, who survives. The union resulted in the birth of twelve children, three of whom preceded their mother to the tomb. Those surviving are: William, of Pittsburgh; David, of LaMoile, Bureau county, Illinois; Annie, wife of William McDermott, of Homestead; John, Joseph and Miss Alice, who live at home; Mrs. Lizzie Boyland; Jane, wife of Frank Orr, and Sadie, wife of George Ehredt, all of this city. One sister, Mrs. William Davis, of this city, also survives. The funeral will take place from the late residence to-morrow morning at 8 o'clock to proceed to St. Mark's chapel where services will be held. Interment in St. John's cemetery.
