At 6.30 o'clock last evening Christian Beyer, one of this city's oldest residents and merchants, died at his home, 1303 Second avenue, of inflammation of the bowels. His death was sudden as he was only taken sick during the morning. Deceased was born in Wurttemberg, Germany, July 10, 1855. He came to America when a youth and late in the fifties settled in Altoona. He entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad company and a few years later went into the grocery business and had for many years conducted a store at 1413 Fifth avenue. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church and was esteemed for his honesty and good character. Besides his wife he is survived by two children, Olive and Carl, both at home.
