BICKEL Of 4908 Oak Ave., died in Mercy Hospital at 12:35 p.m. yesterday, following an illness of several months. She was born Nov. 26, 1898, in Newry, a daughter of Valentine and Blanche (Wertz) Lauffer, and married Charlie Bickel, who died Nov. 17, 1961. She is survived by five children, Mrs. Alma B. Dumm, with whom she resided, Charles W., David T., and Mrs. Verna J. Mills, all of Altoona, and Mrs. Arlene Bailey of Johnston City, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and the following brothers and sisters, Dewey of Harrisburg, Mrs. Maude Johnston of Butler, Mrs. Esther McCool of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Jeanette Nash of Conshohocken. Mrs. Bickel was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for a number of years, of the Lutheran Church Women and the Marigold Social Club. Friends will be received in the Stevens Mortuary from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
