Mr. Black was born June 24, 1881, at Greenwood, a son of Samuel C. and Rachel (Coleman) Black. He was married to Flora E. Dunmire March 8, 1911, in Philadelphia. She died in 1955. Surviving are three children, Lawrence S., Mrs. Louise R. Miller and Ross E. of Altoona; four grandchildren and two brothers, Samuel C. and Clinton B. of Altoona. Educated in the Logan Township schools and Juniata College, Mr. Black taught school for several years at Glen White. In 1954 he retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad as a Middle Division Passenger conductor after 48 years service. Mr. Black was a member of First Luthern Church, Henry Baker Bible Class, Logan Lodge 480, F. and A.M., [50 years]; Valley of Williamsport, Scottish Rite bodies, Mountain Royal Arch Chapter 189, Mountain Council 9, Royal and Select Masters; Mountain Commandery 10, Knights Templar; Jaffa Shrine Temple and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Lodge 174.
