BLACKBURN Of 2010 Eighth avenue, well known resident of the Sixth ward for the past forty-six years and retired engineer and inspector for the Pennsylvania Railroad company, died at his home at 10.50 o'clock yesterday morning after an extended illness. He was born in Pleasantville, Bedford county, on May 24, 1864, a son of Moses and Sarah Agnes (McFarland) Blackburn, and married Miss Elizabeth Himes in Martinsburg on March 19, 1882. In early life he engaged in farming, coming to Altoona and entering the railroad company service as a locomotive fireman on the Pittsburgh division on Feb. 9, 1887. On Jan. 4, 1893, he was promoted to engineer, later working on the Altoona division as inspector and engineman until Dec. 1, 1929, when he retired after forty-two years' continuous service. For many years Mr. Blackburn was engineer on branch passenger trains between Altoona and Huntingdon and Altoona and Henrietta. Surviving are his wife, three daughters and two sons, Mrs. H. I. Oswalt of Huntingdon, Mrs. C. L. Sandrus, Mrs. Drew Hepner and Edgar Blackburn, all of Altoona, and Elmer, at home; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother and one sister, Mrs. Lavina Fouse and William E. Blackburn, both of Hollidaysburg. Mr. Blackburn was a lifelong member of Christ Evangelical and Reformed church and of the Knights of Malta. The body may be viewed at the home after 6 o'clock this evening. BLACKBURN - Funeral services for Henry M. Blackburn of 2010 Eighth avenue will be conducted by Rev. Charles D. Rockel of Christ Evangelical and Reformed church, at the home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in Alto-Reste cemetery. Friends are being received at the home after 6 o'clock this evening.
