All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ IRA "BLACKIE" BLACKBURN Jan. 16, 1923 - Sept. 29, 2006 Ira "Blackie" Blackburn, 83, a patient of Beverly Healthcare-Hillview, formerly of 2719 Jefferson St., Altoona, went home to be with the Lord Friday at the nursing home. He was born in Pleasantville, Pa., son of the late Ira and Jennie (Wright) Blackburn. He married Doris J. Gutshall Feb. 17, 1942, in Roaring Spring. Blackie was employed at Beasley Motor Rebuilders as a mechanic, retiring Jan. 29, 1988, after many years of service. He was an Altoona High School graduate and a member of First Church of God, where he was active in the Senior Life Fellowship group and also had been a council member of the church for many years. Blackie and his wife had owned a used bookstore at Seventh Avenue and 20th Street for more than 10 years and were very active in the flea market business. He enjoyed hunting and traveling, loved the beach and especially enjoyed spending special times with his family. Surviving are his wife of 64 years; a daughter, Linda Duncan and her husband, Dave, of Altoona; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruthanna Vogel of Altoona; and a daughter-in- law, Debbie Blackburn. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Blackburn, earlier this month; a son, Gary Blackburn; and five brothers: Albert, Arthur, Ralph, Robert Samuel and Rayford. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2006.
