He was born in Centre county, Nov. 10, 1838, and had been a resident of Altoona since March, 1875. He was married in 1854 to Miss Maggie Swinehart, of Hollidaysburg, who survives him, together with nine sons and daughters, all of whom reside in Altoona except one, Mrs. B. Kirlay, whose home is in Philadelphia. He served his country in the Second Pennsylvania cavalry in the civil war. He was for many years a member of the Christian church. Tyrone Herald, Tyrone, Pa., October 15, 1903 JOSEPH BLAIR. At 1.58 o'clock yesterday afternoon Joseph Blair died at his home 2323 Sixth avenue of diseases incident to old age. He had been in failing health for several months. Deceased was born in Centre county, November 10, 1833, and had resided in Altoona for a number of years, working as a contractor and builder. He was a member of the Christian church and was well known and esteemed. He was a veteran of the civil war, having served in the Second Pennsylvania cavalry. Mr. Blair was married in 1854 to Maggie Swinehart, of Hollidaysburg, who survives with these children: John R., George W., Elmer E., David, Thomas, Howard, Mrs. Eva Runyeon and Mrs. Albert Coleman, all of Altoona, and Mrs. B. Kirk Lay, of Philadelphia. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister; thirty-four grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
