S. Blair By the Session of the First Presbyterian church, of Tyrone, Pa. It is with sincere regret and deep grief that we, the session of the First Presbyterian church, of Tyrone, Pennsylvania, record the decease on March 27, 1915 of our beloved friend and fellow worker in the Lord, Samuel S. Blair. We have lost a pillar or our church. Mr. Blair would have been eighty-two years of age on the ninth of October next. His member ship in the church was a long one and for many, many years he served the church faithfully as an elder, as president of the congregation and for a number of years he was superintendent of the Bible school. In all these positions of service in the church, we recall with pleasure, his spirit of devotion, earnestness and consecration. He loved his church and was faithful in the discharge of his religious obligations. His zeal for the active duties only ceased through advanced age and physical disability. His love for the church waned not with the years. We as a church have lost a good friend in the falling on sleep of Mr. Blair. We thank God for giving him so long a life and for allowing him to serve so many years in the church. In the providence of God the time has come to chronicle the falling on sleep of our brother elder. God allows His workmen to fall on sleep that they may rest from their labors; for their works follow with them, but His work goes on. We, as a session, desire to publish this appreciation in the Tyrone Herald, spread it on our minutes, send a copy of it to the bereaved family. We also wish to convey to them our sympathy in their bereavement; to make mention of the church’s great loss, to express our own deep sorrow as a session in the loss of one so long identified with us as an elder. We point the family to the Eternal Refuge, that underneath them in their sorrow may be the Everlasting Arms. May He comfort them as He alone can. Session First Presbyterian Church.
