Michael "Mike" Blaska, age 57, of 409 Fifth Street, Tyrone died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Tyrone Hospital. He was born December 12, 1950 in Tyrone, the son of Pete and Anna Mae Kustenbauder Blaska. On July 27, 1974 at the First Lutheran Church he was married to Susan I. Igou who survives. Also surviving are two children - Christopher (Carol) of Warriors Mark and Kendra Blaska of Fowler Hollow and one granddaughter, Alexa Paige Beyer, his mother of Tyrone and a brother, Peter Lee (Dawn) Blaska of Lititz, PA and a sister-in-law, Cathy Igou, and a nephew and niece, Brian and Breein Igou, all of Tyrone. Also surviving is an aunt, Virginia Blaska and son James Blaska and daughter Deborah Broughton, all of Illinois. He was a graduate of Tyrone Area High School Class of 1969 and had been employed as a Sales Rep. for Pillsbury and General Mills. He attended St. Peters United Church of Christ in State College. Mike was a member of B.P.O.E. No. 212 and was especially involved with the youth aspects of the organization. He was active in the Y.M.C.A. for many, many years. He was currently serving as a member of the Albemarle Corporation Advisory Board. In March 2004 he was recognized by WTRN as an Outstanding Citizen. He was named to the Pillsbury Circle of Excellence in 1998, received numerous awards from Pillsbury and General Mills for his outstanding service as a Sales Rep. Mike was an avid Altoona Curve fan and sponsored the "Giggle Off" at the Curve. He was active in all aspects of youth activities including Little League and the Hot Stove League at the Altoona Curve. He had served as a basketball coach at Tyrone Area High School. At one time he was an avid hunter and he was a well known kazoo player. He was devoted to his family. Funeral services for G. Michael Blaska will be Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Reverend Charles A. Fitzgerald officiating. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family.
