All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ SOL BLUMENTHAL Sol Blumenthal, a former well known Altoona shoe merchant, died at 5 o'clock Tuesday morning at his summer home at Far Rockaway, L.I. of heart trouble superinduced by rheumatism with which he had suffered for sometime. Deceased was born in Germany and was past 60 years of age. He came to America when a boy and subsequently located in this city. He embarked in the shoe business where the L. Z. Replogle store is now located, selling out to George Streit many years ago. While here he resided at Lexington avenue and Ninth street and also at the Logan House. He moved to New York more than twenty years ago and was the owner of the Harvard Knitting mills, manufacturers of ladies sweater coats and other garments. He was prominent in Mason and Shrine circles and was a charter member of the old Juniata club that had its home in the old Plack home on Chestnut avenue. He is survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter, Joseph, with the U.S. army in France; Myron, in the ordnance department at Washington and Miss Helen, engaged in Red Cross work. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Barthold Blumenthal, of Altoona; August Blumenthal, of Newark; Mrs. A. Rosenberg, of Denver and Mrs. Rudolph Schreiver, of Brooklyn. The late Julius Blumenthal, of this city, was a brother. Interment will be made in New York. Altoona Tribune, Thursday morning, August 8, 1918, page 7
