Mr. George Bockel, whose death occurred on Sunday last at 11:30 o'clock at his residence on Fifth avenue, between Nineteenth and Twentieth streets, after a protracted illness from consumption, was an employe of the company in the machine shops. Mr. Bockel was born November 16, 1840 in Wickenrode province, Hessen Cassel, of the German Empire, and was consequently in the 41st year of her [sic] age. He was trained in the locksmith's trade in Hamburg. Finishing his trade he went to Australia, where he remained seven years. He then returned to his native land, but soon tired of living there, concluded to emigrate to this country and took up his residence in this city, where he has remained ever since, a skilled and faithful artisan in the service of the company. He was a member of Rising Sun Circle, No. 59, Brotherhood of the Union, which organization will attend the funeral in a body. An invitation has also been extended to Bethany Circle to join their brethren in attendance of the funeral. The deceased was a member of the German Evangelical Lutheran Church, where appropriate services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday, May 24, 1881
