BOHN - After a short but severe illness, died in this place, on Sunday the 15th inst., at two o'clock, a.m., aged 24 years and 6 months. He was a generous, kind-hearted, and a true, warm friend, and will be greatly missed, not only in this place, but throughout the county. He was a great favorite with the young - and popular with all classes of our citizens. Deceased was born in McConnellsburg, Fulton County, and came to Hollidaysburg, about six years ago, entering the office of his uncle, A. S. Morrow, Esq., then Prothonotary of Blair County, where his courteous and gentlemanly behaviour won for him hosts of friends. He was representative delegate to the Republican State Convention last year, and although so young in years, his influence and political ability caused him to be recognized as one of the leaders of his party in this county. Upon the election of Jas. P. Steward, Esq., to the office of Prothonotary of Blair County, at the last election, Mr. Bohn, though of opposite political views, was retained as Deputy Prothonotary, it being an impossibility to secure any person who could so well and acceptably perform the duties of his office. He was a member of the Phoenix Steam Fire Engine Company, and held the rank of corporal in the Juniata Rifleman. The respective engine-houses were appropriately draped out of respect for his memory, while a gloom appears to have settled upon the whole community. The funeral took place on Tuesday morning, from the residence of A. S. Morrow, Esq., and proceeded to the railroad where the remains were conveyed to Martinsburg for interment. They were accompanied to the depot by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. The fire department of our place accompanied the remains to Martinsburg. Thus has passed away in early life, one who had every prospect of a bright future before him. How true, that we know not the day nor the hour when the Son of Man cometh. Peace to his memory. The Register, Hollidaysburg, Pa., Wednesday February 18, 1874 DEATH OF JOHN R. BOHN. - With what terribly chilling effect does the simple word DEATH grate upon the ear! What a vast number of sad memories it calls trooping through the mind even when applied to the past; and oh, what mourning and what sorrow does it not convey when used for the present? The fifteenth of February, 1874, will long be remembered by the citizens of the county capital as the day on which passed from their midst one of the most generous, kind hearted and warmest friend that was ever met - John R. Bohn. Cut off in the blossom of his life, he went to his last account at two o'clock yesterday morning, aged twenty-four years and six months. Deceased was born in McConnellsburg, Fulton county, and came to Hollidaysburg about six years, entering the office of his uncle, A. S. Morrow, Esq., then Prothonotary of Blair county, where his courteous and gentlemanly behavior won for him hosts of friends. He was representative delegate to the Republican State Convention last year, and although so very young in years his influence and political ability caused him to be recognized as one of the leaders of his party in this county. Upon the election of Jas. P. Stewart, Esq., to the offices of Prothonotary of Blair county at the last election, Mr. Bohn, though of opposite political views, was retained as Deputy Prothonotary, it being an impossibility to secure any person who could so well and acceptably perform the duties of the office. He was a member of the Phoenix Steam Fire Engine company, and held the rank of corporal in the Juniata Riflemen. The respective engine- houses have been appropriately draped out of respect for his memory, while a gloom appears to have settled upon the whole community. The funeral of the deceased will take place on to-morrow (Tuesday) morning, and will leave the residence of A. S. Morrow, Esq., at nine o'clock sharp and proceed to the railroad depot, when, upon the arrival of the morning train from this city, the remains will be conveyed to Martinsburg for interment. The different fire companies of the county are respectfully invited to join with the members of the Hollidaysburg department in paying the last sad rites to the memory of one of their true and tried members. Arrangements will be made that will enable any person who may so desire to accompany the remains to Martinsburg.
