Brief Illness Is Fatal for City Teacher.

Dr. Russel K. Bohn, 56, of 203 S. 22nd St., teacher of English and related 
subjects in the Altoona Area High School, died at 2.45 a.m. today in the 
Altoona Hospital, where, he was readmitted yesterday after having been 
hospitalized there in January.  He had planned to return to his classes after 
Easter.
  Although a teacher now in the language department of the school, Dr. Bohn 
was earlier known for his work in instrumental music in the school, 
particular his annual orchestra concerts.  He served as choir director and 
organist at Temple Lutheran Church.
  Born Sept. 12, 1912, in Altoona, a son of Archie and Rose (Geisler) Bohn, 
he married Vida K. Goodman of the city on April 19, 1941.  Surviving are his 
wife and two sons, Jeff and Eric, at home; his mother, of Altoona, and a 
brother, Rayford of Oxon Hill, Md.
  Dr. Bohn was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Logan Lodge, F&AM; 
Altoona Consistory, Square & Compass Club and Jaffa Shrine Temple, the AAEA 
and PSEA.
  A graduate of Altoona High School in 1930, he subsequently received his 
bachelor's degree from Juniata College in 1949, master's degree from Temple 
University in 1942, and his doctor of education degree in 1957 from 
Pennsylvania State College.
  He first taught for eight years in the Ephrata schools, returning to 
Altoona in 1947 as head of the instrumental music department which included 
both bands and orchestras.  While in the language department in recent years, 
he continued to teach harmony.
  In World War II, he first served in the medical corps and infantry and then 
in special services, writing and arranging for the service bands, with the 
rank of lieutenant.
  Friends will be received in the Myers Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 
p.m. tomorrow.

BOHN - Services for Russel K. Bohn of 203 S. 22nd St. will be held at 2:30 
p.m. Sunday in the Myers Funeral Home by the Rev. Hugo W. Schroeder.  
Interment in Alto-Reste Burial Park at the convenience of the family.  
Friends will be received in the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
