He was born at Millheim, Center county, March 2, 1823. He learned coach making and first followed that occupation at Mifflinburg, where he married Miss Catharine Auble. The result of this union was nine children, eight of whom are still living, viz,: John W., William S., Chas., Grant, Mrs. M. E. Boate and Mrs. Adolf Shiffler, all of this city and Mrs. Emma Carr of Roanoke, Va. and Mrs. Sue Kellar of Ashley, Pa. Mr. Bollinger joined the Methodist church fifty years ago. He was a thorough and sincere Christian in all his walks in life. So earnest was he in attending his church duties that yesterday morning, although in a greatly enervated state, he went to the Eighth Avenue church, but was unable on his arrival there to mount the steps unaided. At dinner neuralgia pains seized him, and for eight hours his sufferings were intense.
