YOUTH AS WELL AS OLD AGE The Mutations of Time Are Inscrutable and the Death Angel Swoops Down on the Old as Well as the Young THOSE WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE Mrs. Martha J. Booth, wife of John S. Booth, of 610 Eighth street, died at 6.30 o'clock last evening of peritonitis after an illness of one week. Mrs. Booth was the daughter of David and Rebecca Boyles. She was born near Tyrone, in Blair county, May 14, 1844, and was married July 4, 1865. She has resided in Altoona for twenty-eight years. The deceased lady is survived by her husband, two sons, Walter H. and Chester S., and one daughter, Ada R., all at home. Five sisters are living, namely: Mrs. Mary McQuillen, of Clearfield county; Mrs. Walter K. Beatty, Mrs. Samuel Hook, Mrs. Rebecca McClellan and Miss Lina, all of this city. In the death of Mrs. Booth her husband loses a faithful wife, her children a loving mother, her church a consistent and faithful member. She was a member of the Eighth Avenue Methodist Episcopal church for many years and was active in all the multiplied work of the church so long as her health permitted. In the Sunday School, as a member of the Woman's Foreign Missionary society, in all the varied activities of the church she could always be depended upon. A few years ago she was attacked by typhoid fever, and for days vibrated between life and death. Although her life was spared her system was profoundly shattered and her health was ever after frail. She was an earnest Christian woman, one whose removal to a better country, while of undoubted advantage to herself, is a great loss to her family, as well as to her church. The funeral arrangements will be announced later. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday, August 31, 1897, page 5 FUNERAL NOTICES. Funeral services over the remains of Mrs. Martha J. Booth will be held at the residence, 610 Eighth street, at 2 o'clock this afternoon in charge of Rev. J. Ellis Bell; interment in Fairview.
