SOLDIER SON OF JUNIATANS DIES IN CRASH Ellsworth Boring, Aged 21, Victim of Army Maneuver Vehicle Accident. Private Ellsworth Boring, aged 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joel C. Boring of 817 Second avenue, Juniata, "died on Dec. 19, near Slagle, La., as a result of injuries received in a government motor vehicle accident," according to word received at the family home at 5.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The message was sent by John W. Leonard, major general, U.S.A., commanding and requested instruction as to the disposition of the body. The remains are being brought home, but the time of arrival has not yet been determined. The young soldier was serving in the 19th tank battalion and was engaged in maneuvers in Louisiana. Earlier in his service he had served through a period of maneuvers in the California desert. He entered the army on Nov. 19, 1942, and was trained first at Camp Riley, Kan. Native of Houtzdale. Private Boring was born at Houtzdale on July 18, 1922, a son of Joel and Mae (Faust) Boring, but grew up in Pittsburgh. The family moved to Tyrone several years ago, residing there until moving to Juniata four months ago. Private Boring's father is a veteran of service in the present war, having been inducted by the Pittsburgh selective service board with which he registered. He was honorably discharged from the service in February of this year. Another son, Private Edward Boring, is serving in Washington, D.C., with the coast guard anti-aircraft unit, but happens to be home on leave at the present time. Private Boring was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad company at the time he entered the service, but earlier had been employed by the Red Rock Cola Bottling company of the city. Surviving are his parents, three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Alice Irvin of Pittsburgh, Edward of the United States army, Margaret, at home, and Betty, of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Tyrone. BORING - Funeral services for Ellsworth Boring of 817 Second avenue, Juniata, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the family home in charge of the Rev. E. M. Vickery. Interment in Brisbin cemetery, Brisbin. Friends are being received at the home after 6 p.m. Friday. Altoona Mirror, Tuesday, December 21, 1943
