Borland aged 78, of 2614 Sixth avenue, a veteran of a half-century of service for the Pennsylvania Railroad company in the Altoona works, died at 5:15 o'clock yesterday of a heart attack in Mercy, hospital where he was admitted Monday. Mr. Borland was born at Mill Creek, Sept. 4, 1872, the son of Wesley and Flora (Brown) Borland, and on Nov. 25, 1895 married Celia M. Hickey, who died Jan. 31, 1950. Mr. Borland was a retired machinist of the Pennsylvania Railroad company in September 1938 after 50 years service. Mr. and Mrs. Borland celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 25, 1945. Surviving are one daughter and one son, Mrs. Margaret Simonton of Harrisburg and L. William Borland of Altoona, one sister Mrs. Betty McParland of Lewistown, and four grandchildren, William Simonton of Chicago, Mrs. Janet (Borland) Bell and William R. Borland of Altoona. One daughter, Cornelia, preceded him in death. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church and the Elks. Mr. Borland will repose at the home after 7 o'clock this evening.
