Our Williamsburg correspondent informs us that Samuel Bossler, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Woodbury township, died at his residence on Clover Creek at 10 o'clock on Wednesday night after a protracted illness, though he had been confined to his bed but three days preceding his death. Mr. Bossler was born on the old Bossler homestead, in Morrison's cove, and spent his entire life in Woodbury township. He was born November 5, 1818, and was consequently aged 68 years, 2 months and 14 days at the time of his death. For many years he was a consistent and faithful member of the Lutheran church, and he died as he had lived, humbly trusting in the merits of Him of died for the sins of the world. His last sickness, as already intimated, was a lingering one, consumption having made its appearance some five years ago, and slowly but surely consumed his vitality. Mr. Bossler was active in all departments of Christian work and was especially devoted to the temperance reform, doing all in his power both by precept and example to promote the cause of total abstinence. Politically he was a Democrat and some years ago was the candidate of that party for director of the poor. He leaves a wife and nine children to mourn his death. The children are: John, who lives in this city; Jackson, Samuel, Martin and Adaline, living at home; Frank, who resides at Saxton; Mrs. Daniel Fouse, of Woodbury township; Mrs. Mary C. Byers, of Shannon, Illinois, and Mrs. Annie R. Enyeart, of Troy, Ohio. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday, January 27, 1887, page 3
