Bowers, a well known and esteemed resident of the city, died suddenly at his home, 1519 Fifth avenue, of heart failure. He had been in his usual health during the day and retired in excellent spirits only to awaken at 11:30 o'clock with a sudden pain in his chest and a few minutes later he passed away. Deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bowers, deceased, and was born near Martinsburg, Pa., and was aged nearly 62 years. He had been a resident of the city for the past thirty-six years, during which time he followed the occupation of a painter. He was for many years a member of the well known painting firm of Brennaman & Bowers, which dissolved and later became known as Bowers & Green. He was well known in the city and had the esteem and respect of a large circle of friends. He was a member of White Cross lodge, Knights of Pythias; the Junior Order United American Mechanics, the Improved Order of Heptasophs and the Knights of Malta. He was married on April 13, 1876, to Miss Margaret S. Brennaman, who survives with two daughters, Mrs. W. B. Seibert and Mrs. J. E. Davis, both of this city. He is also survived by one sister, Miss Anna Bowers, of Lead, South Dakota; and two brothers, Ephraim Bowers, of Tucson, Ill., and Levi Bowers, of Martinsburg. The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, services to be conducted at the house. Interment in Oak Ridge cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Wednesday, June 6, 1906, page 8
