He had been ailing for the past few weeks, but the end came suddenly and was a shock to his family and friends. The deceased was 68 years of age and was a resident of the city during the greater part of his life. Up until recently he was employed in the pattern shop of the Pennsylvania railroad company in this city, having charge of one of the departments. He was a veteran of the civil war. Enlisting in response to Lincoln's first call for troops, he served for three months then re-enlisted for nine months, which term he had extended for a period of three years. He participated in a number of hard fought engagements during his service in the army. He was a member of Post 62 of this city. He was also a communicant of the Eighth Avenue Methodist church. Besides his wife, he is survived by one sister, Miss Jennie Boyles of Bellwood. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., August 22, 1906
