About 6 o'clock in the evening, Samuel Boyles was at work in the harvest field. The rain commenced descending in torrents, when he took shelter under a tree in the field. While leaning against the trunk of the tree with his back, the lightning struck it - the electric field passing down the trunk struck him on the head, literally tore his clothes to pieces, and killed him instantly. Mr. Boyles was about forty years of age, and we regret to learn leaves a wife and seven small children who were dependent upon his exertions for support.
