Brainard, formerly of the Tyrone Herald, but latterly connected with the Deadwood Pioneer, died on Sunday night of inflammation of the bowels. He was a brilliant and spicy writer. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Wednesday, December 15, 1880 The Late W. H. H. Brainard. William H. H. Brainard, whose death and the cause was briefly noted in yesterday's TRIBUNE, was well known to many of the citizens of Blair county by reason of his editorial connection with the Tyrone Herald some eight years ago. After leaving this county he drifted west, and for four years was the city editor of the Council Bluffs Nonpareil. He was also Chief of the Fire Department of that city. Recently he was the editor of the Sidney, Neb., Telegraph and the Custer City Chronicle; was a postmaster, a Mason; served four years in the army, and was mustered out as Lieutenant Colonel of the One Hundred and Thirty-seventh New York State Volunteers. He was also formerly a field correspondent of the New York Herald, and his last newspaper connection was as an editorial writer for the Daily Pioneer of Deadwood, Dakota territory, where he died. He was about 40 years old, and was born in Binghamton, New York. It is not known where his relations are.
