Death was due to bronchial asthma and followed an illness of about six months. Mr. Brandt's death also falls on his natal anniversary, the Altoona contractor having been born just 57 years ago today. Mr. Brandt was born in Cambria county May 6, 1862, the son of William and Rosanna Brandt, both deceased. Early in life he came to Altoona and has been engaged in construction and contracting work since he was about 20 years of age. Mr. Brandt was one of the best known contractors in this part of the state. Thirty-eight years ago he was married to Miss Margaret Anna Burkhart of York, who survives with five daughters as follows: Mrs. Arthur Hughes of this city and at whose home he died; Mrs. John Higgins and Mrs. Frank Yon, both of this city; Mrs. George Sutton of Atlantic City, and Miss Josephine, at home. Two brothers and one sister also survive: George Brandt of Chester, Pa.; Joseph of Altoona and Mrs. George Seabolt of Lilly, Pa. Mr. Brandt was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and of the Altoona Lodge, B. P. O. E. About six months ago Mr. Brandt went to Pinehurst, N. C., in the interest of his health but remained there but one week when he returned to this city, little benefited in health. He has been at the daughter's home since returning to Altoona. His condition has been very critical for a considerable length of time. The remains will be removed to his own home, 60 Washington avenue, this evening and can be viewed from tomorrow on up to the time of the funeral. During his career as a contactor and builder, Mr. Brandt erected many of the largest and most notable buildings in Altoona, including the Elks' home on Twelfth street, the Woolworth building, the Trainmen's hall of Eighth avenue, the Elberon apartment building on Eighth avenue, the store building of the Grand Union Tea Company on Eleventh avenue and the church edifices of the Church of God at Sixth avenue and Fourteenth street and of the Church of Christ at Sixth avenue and Ninth street. He also built most of the large school buildings erected in recent years in Logan township and the new High school building at Williamsburg as well as the new Penn Central building at Williamsburg.
