BRIGGS Of 1623 Fifth avenue, a retired engineer of the Pittsburgh division, died suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Otto Schultz, 906 Twenty-ninth street, at 3 o'clock this morning, of a heart ailment from which he had suffered for some time. He was born on June 24, 1874, at Burnt Cabins, Fulton county, a son of Thomas M. and Amanda (Gallagher) Briggs, but had resided in Altoona for the past forty years. Mr. Briggs retired from the railroad service in 1938 after forty years' employment. His wife, Mrs. Cora Belle (Shadle) Briggs, died on April 29, 1926. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Alton B. Briggs, Officer Bert Briggs of the city police department and Mrs. Otto Schultz, all of the city; seven grandchildren, and one brother, Jesse Briggs of Orbisonia. Mr. Briggs was of the Presbyterian faith and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Friends will be received at the Laughlin funeral home after noon Wednesday. BRIGGS - Funeral services for Ira E. Briggs of 1623 Fifth avenue will be held at the Laughlin funeral home at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon by Rev. W. W. Breckbill. Interment in Rose Hill cemetery.
