"Boots" Brisbin, age 87, of 537 Fifth Street, Tyrone, and a guest at Epworth Manor died Friday, October 13, 2006 at 11:53 p.m. at the Manor. He was born July 29, 1919 in Tyrone, the son of Guy B. and Amber E. McCoy Brisbin. On June 22, 1939 at Berryville, VA he was married to Jane Elizabeth Bridenbaugh who preceded him in death December 10, 1943. On February 8, 1947 at the First Presbyterian Church he was married to Velma Lucille Walbridge who preceded him in death June 30, 1988. He is survived by a son, Lawrence J. Brisbin and wife Amy and two granddaughters Christina Marie and Alyssa Kathleen, all of RD3, Tyrone; a sister-in-law Guinevere J. Brisbin, Wabash, IN and two nephews, Rodney Brisbin of Wabash, IN and Paul Brisbin of Brookston, IN. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence G. and James M. and a sister, Agnes S. Myer. He was the last of his immediate family. He was a graduate of Tyrone High School, class of 1937 and served in the US Army during World War II in the Luzon Campaign and the Philippine Liberation. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, retiring in 1979 as a locomotive engineer for Conrail and Amtrak after 38 years service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1932, serving as Deacon, Elder, member of the Westminster Choir, coordinator of the Sunday schools and the teacher of the E.W. Stine Bible Class. He was also a member of Tyrone Lodge No. 494 F. & A.M., Valley of Altoona Consistory, Jaffa Temple Altoona, the Howard Gardner Post No. 281 American Legion and Anderson Denny Post No. 4559 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Funeral service for Francis B. "Boots" Brisbin will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Robert Dunkelberger and Reverend Charles Swenson officiating. Interment will be in Bald Eagle Cemetery. Friends may call at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or to the Tyrone Salvation Army unit.
