Brumbaugh Crushed to Death Between Two Cars. Yesterday morning an accident occurred at the lower shops resulting in the death of a workman named Henry C. Brumbaugh. He was at work on a car standing in the yard and was looking under it to see that repairs were needed to the brake chain. In some way another car was started toward the one he was working with. He had his back turned toward it and did not see the car coming. In an instant it caught his head between the deadwoods and crushed it terribly. Two or three workmen saw the car coming and did every thing in their power to stop it but the distance was too short. When struck Mr. Brumbaugh fell to the ground and gasped once or twice but did not speak. Coroner Humes was notified and held an inquest. The following jury were chosen: F. S. Ball, A. C. Lytle, E. B. Wall, John L. Burley, S. L. Hewit and Levi Geesey. After hearing the testimony they rendered a verdict of accidental death and exculpated any one from blame. Mr. Brumbaugh was a married man living in Smithtown, a suburb of the city. He was aged about 50 years, and leaves a wife and several young children to mourn his demise. The body was taken home after the inquest. The injuries were entirely confined to the head, the forehead being crushed in. So great was the force with which the car struck that it is said to have rebounded back several feet. He served in the war of the rebellion in Company B, One hundred and twenty-fifth Pennsylvania volunteers, and was a member of the Garfield and Arthur Veteran Club. He had a brother killed on the railroad, in the vicinity of Martinsburg, some years ago. The funeral will take place at 10:30 o'clock on Sunday morning; services in the Chestnut Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church, of which the deceased was a member. Friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Saturday, September 18, 1880 1880 Altoona, Blair County census - Henry C. Brumbaugh, 49 Rebecca E.
