At 2.45 o'clock yesterday morning Mr. John Burke, an old and respected resident of the Sixth ward, died at his home, 1704 Eighth avenue, of a complication of diseases resulting from old age. He had been ailing for three years and was only taken suddenly ill Tuesday night. Deceased was born at Emmettsburg, Md., May 16, 1813. He came to Altoona almost twenty-eight years ago and entered the employ of the Pennsylvania railroad company. He worked in the soft iron foundry until retired on the pension list. He was a member of the Greencastle German Reformed church and the Pennsylvania Railroad Relief association. He enjoyed the friendship of all who knew him. His wife preceded him to the grave three years ago. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Belle Taggart, of this city. The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon, services at the house at 2 o'clock; interment in Oak Ridge cemetery. Morning Tribune, Thursday, February 1, 1900
