Burket Dies; Retired farmer, Church Leader John Warren Burket, prominent retired Sinking Valley farmer and long associated with business and church interests in Sinking Valley and Tyrone, died in the Altoona Mercy hospital Wednesday afternoon at 3:15 o'clock following an extended illness. Since his retirement in 1934 he has resided at 217 West Tenth street, Tyrone. Mr. Burket was born Mar. 20, 1870 at the Burket homestead, Sinking Valley, the son of Ephriam and Mary Harnish Burket, on Nov. 3, 1903, he was married to Alice Crawford who died in 1918. Surviving are two children: Ross C. Burket and Mrs. David A. Morrow, Sinking Valley; and eight grandchildren. He was a member of the Sinking Valley Presbyterian church at Arch Spring, an elder in that church and president of the congregation for many years. He attended the Tyrone township schools and Andover Academy, Andover, Mass. He was actively engaged in farming in Sinking Valley, operating the ancestral farm, until he retired in 1934 and moved to Tyrone. He was a director of the First Blair County national Bank of Tyrone. He was also a member of Sinking Valley Grange No. 484, Patrons of Husbandry, and was to have been one of the older members to be given special recognition at the 75th anniversary observance tonight. Friends will be received at the Graham and Getz funeral home after 1 o'clock Friday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in charge of the Rev. David I. Schaeffer pastor of the Sinking Valley Presbyterian church. Burial will be in the Arch Spring cemetery.
