All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ George Burley George Burley, 94, formerly of the Pennsylvania House and since September, 1987, a guest at the Moshannon Presbyterian Home in Philipsburg, died Friday, February 3, at 3:25 p.m. at the home following a brief illness. He was born October 10, 1894, at Tyrone, the son of Joshua and Sarah M. Burley. On June 23, 1920, at Bellefonte, he was married to Caroline C. Morrison who preceded him in death, November 4, 1969. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Laurie (Jean) Rhoades of Tyrone, 2 grandsons, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter in 1932, and was the last of his immediate family. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Men's Bible Class, Free and Accepted Masons, Lodge No. 494, Tyrone; Williamsport Consistory, Jaffa Shrine, and the Tyrone Shrine Club. He was a charter member and honorary past Commander of Howard Gardner Post No. 281 American Legion and was a member of the original Tyrone American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. He was also a member of World War 1 Barracks, a member of B.P.O.E. No. 212 and of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, the A.A.R.P. and was a veteran of service with the 35th Regiment Engineers as a Sergeant First Class with the American Expeditionary Forces in France. He retired September 17, 1959, from the Juniata Shops of the P.R.R. as an engine constructor after 48 years service. Funeral service will be held Monday, February 6th, at 2 p.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home with the Reverend Charles J. Swenson officiating. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Tyrone. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tyrone Daily Herald, February 4, 1989
