After a long, lingering and painful illness, calmly and heroically endured, Mrs. Elizabeth Jane, widow of A. P. Calderwood, M.D., died at her home on Allegheny street yesterday afternoon at 4.45 o'clock. Born in the vicinity of Asbury Chapel, Antis township, January 26, 1828, her parents being Jacob and Ann Smith, old-time residents of that section, she was married to Dr. A. P. Calderwood in March, 1857, who has preceded her to the other shore, having departed this life August 18, 1887. She was aged, at the time of her death, 62 years and 10 months, and leaves to mourn their loss one son and one daughter - Judson J., of the Pennsylvania railroad freight department at this station, and Adella, who made her home with her mother. Besides these she leaves two brothers - John A. Smith, of Altoona, and Alfred A. Smith, of this place. One singular coincidence in the death of many members of this family is that the same occurred on the 18th day of the month except this one, a grandfather, husband and son having died on this date. She had been a consistent member of the Methodist church since she arrived at her 10th year, in which faith she died with a full hope of immortality. She was a wife and mother, and when we speak thus we mean it in the broadest acceptation of the term. Kind and indulgent, frequently sacrificing her pleasures for the benefit of those near and dear to her, a Christian woman without fault or blemish, amidst her circle her absence will be sadly missed. Funeral services will be held in the First Methodist Episcopal church, Logan and Allegheny streets, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, to be conducted by Rev. George Leidy and others. Interment in Tyrone cemetery. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday, November 27, 1890
