Calderwood, of 804 Seventh Avenue, Altoona, a native of Tyrone, died yesterday afternoon in a one-car accident in Logan Township. He was born in Tyrone on February 27, 1924, a son of George W. and Margaret (Brisbin) Calderwood. He was married to the former Alice Brenneman, of Thomastown. Surviving are the widow, daughters, Mrs. Robert (Judith) Hollen of Tyrone; Mrs. Charles (Betsy), Wyper of Juniata; and sons, Lawrence and Robert at home; and one daughter, Mrs. Chester (Margaret) Pike, of Havelock, North Carolina; six grandchildren, and three brothers and a sister, all of Tyrone, Lawrence L.; Leonard P., George W. and Mrs. Max (Dorothy) Andrews. He was a 1943 graduate of Tyrone Area High School, was a veteran of World War II, having served in Europe, with the 86th Infantry Division. He was employed for 23 years on the railroad, lastly serving Conrail as a freight conductor on the route from Altoona to Enola. He was a member of the United Transportation Union and of the Enola American Legion Post. He had resided in Altoona for 25 years. Funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m., at the Getz and Searer Funeral Home, in Tyrone, in charge of the Reverend Norman Huff. Burial will be in Alto Reste Burial Park, Altoona.
