CALVERT On last Thursday afternoon, at half-past 2 o'clock, John S. Calvert, ex county commissioner, died at his residence, in Logan township, this county. About two years ago Mr. Calvert began to feel the effects of the illness that was to result in his death, but it was not until a few months since, that it assumed such seriousness, as to confine him to his home, and to his bed for about three weeks. His ailment was caused by a tumor in the transverse colon. Several years ago he had a pitch-fork ran into his right side, and had also been kicked by a horse in the same region, and these mishaps, it is supposed, had something to do with the cause of his death. He bore all his suffering and pain with Christian fortitude and resignation. The deceased was born in Frankport township, Cumberland county, Pa., and was aged 52 years, two months and two days at the time of death. He leaves a wife and eight children to morn his death. The funeral services took place at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at his residence, conducted by Rev. J. B. Shaver, of the First M. E. Church of Altoona. The remains were entered in Fairview cemetery of that place. Martinsburg Herald, March 15, 1888
