Thomas Canole Took a Dose of Laudanum and Died. For the purpose of ending his life Thomas Canole of Altoona, swallowed a dose of laudanum early Thursday morning, from the effects of which he died at 12.30 p.m. Canole was a brass worker and at one time had been employed by the railroad company in its brass foundry. He contracted a case of brass poisoning, for which he had undergone treatment prior to his demise. He had not worked for about a year. Recently he became noticeably moody. He imagined people talked about him. About 2 o'clock Thursday morning he left his boarding house, but returned soon afterwards. Before daybreak he left again. At 5 several men going out for berries found him lying at Fifteenth avenue and Twenty-first street, breathing heavily. He was identified and carried to the home of his nephew, Edward Donnelly, in a comatose state. An empty one ounce laudanum vial, found in his coat pocket, told the sad story. Canole was 48 years of age and a native of Ireland, having been born in County Galway. He had resided in America twenty-six years, and in Altoona the greater part of that time. He leaves two sisters in Ireland. The Tyrone Herald, Thursday, August 20, 1896
