The accident occurred at Eighth avenue and Eighteenth street. J. E. Spielman, of 1009 Sixth Avenue, Altoona, was the driver of the automobile. Walks Into Path of Car According to Spielman's statement to the city police, he was driving east on Eighth avenue. At Eighteenth street, he slowed down to allow another automobile that was coming around the corner, to pass. Starting up again, Spielman said he saw a boy directly in his path. As he swerved to the left to avoid striking the lad, little Josephine toddled across the street directly in front of his machine. Dies at Hospital Spielman placed the girl in his machine, and took her to the Mercy hospital. Her head was badly crushed, and she died soon after the hospital was reached. Spielman then drove to City Hall and reported the accident. He was not held. Investigation Made Coroner Chester C. Rothrock is making an investigation of the accident. An inquest will probably be held within the next few days. Josephine Carbo was the daughter of Nicholas and Mary Carbo and was born in this city, March 14, 1921. Surviving are the parents, and the following brothers and sisters: Domenick, Jennie, Anna, James, Joseph, Thomas and Helen, all at home. The funeral will be held at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning, with interment in Calvary cemetery. Tyrone Daily Herald, Tyrone, Pa., Friday, September 12, 1924
