He was born at Loop on April 24, 1866, and entered the railroad company service on March 12, 1900, in the carpenter shop. He was employed as a cabinetmaker until 1917, then became a car builder, working in the passenger car service. He retired on Feb. 1, 1932. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bertha Carles, three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Leo J. Foster of the city, Mrs. Arthur J. Segrine of Eddystone, Gus B. Carles, of Claymont, Del., Mrs. John F. Struke and Clyde C. Carles of the city; two stepchildren, Mrs. Clyde Thomas of Harrison City and Lawrence Felty of Philadelphia; two sisters and one brother, Joseph Carles and Mrs. Flora Smalley of the city and Mrs. Anna Kaufman of Geeseytown. There are nine grandchildren. The body may be viewed at the home where funeral services will be held at 2.30 o'clock Friday afternoon. Interment will be made in Oak Ridge cemetery.
