All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ JOSEPH ELMER CARLES Veteran car building for the Pennsylvania Railroad company, died this morning at 7:15 o'clock at his home at 214 Crawford avenue, death being attributed to the infirmities of age. He was a son of Christ and Annie (Casner) Carles and was born at Frankstown on April 8, 1856. He was educated in the public schools of his home town and was united in marriage with Mary E. Hannigan on Nov. 20, 1888, in Hollidaysburg, who survives, with one son, Jesse L. Carles and one daughter, Mrs. Harry E. Baker and two sisters, Mrs. Annie Kauffman of Geeseytown and Mrs. Flora Smawley of Altoona and four grandchildren. He was a member of the Second Avenue United Brethren church and the P.R.R. Relief association. Mr. Carles entered the employ of the Pennsylvania railroad on Aug. 17, 1891, and served as a car builder until his retirement on Aug. 17, 1921.
