Carothers Shortly after 8 o'clock yesterday morning William Jackson Carothers, aged 41 years, a lineman in the employ of the Pennsylvania and Northwestern Railroad, committed suicide at his home on Sixth street, Bellwood. For some months past the deceased, who was well and favorably known in Bellwood, had given evidences of melancholia, but the causes leading thereto are not known. He had bought a carbine from a returned soldier some time ago and yesterday morning went to the spare room on the second story of his home. Whether he took the weapon with him or whether it was in the room is not known, but shortly after he went up stairs there was heard a noise of a report and on going to investigate the unfortunate man was found dead. The bullet had gone up through the neck, passing through his head and lodging in the ceiling. Surviving him are his wife, two sons and four daughters, the youngest child being six months old. Mrs. Clayton Martz, residing at Millers' blacksmith shop in Logan township, is a sister and T. E. Carothers, of this city, is a brother. He also leaves three half sisters - Mrs. George Price, of Port Matilda, Centre County; Mrs. Frank Galbraith, of Rock Hill, Huntingdon county, and Mrs. Edward Sweeney, of Dawson, Fayette county. Mr. Carothers was a member of the German Baptist church, was much esteemed by those who knew him and no cause except that he was mentally unbalanced, can be assigned for the rash act which resulted in his death. The funeral services will be held at his late home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Coroner McCartney was notified of the death.
