A man about 32 years of age, whose name is supposed to be Jerry Casey and whose home is thought to be at Binghamton, N.Y., was instantly killed on the railroad near Twenty-ninth street some time early this morning. The dead body of the man found lying along the tracks at 3 o’clock by the trackwalker. Indications pointed that the man had been killed but a short time before, presumably having been struck by an empty engine, which came down off the mountain. The body was brought to the city and turned over to Undertaker Rollins. A deep cut was found in the back part of his head. The man was evidently beating his way on the railroad and was probably looking for a freight when he was struck. He was moderately well dressed, and in his pockets was found several buns and a piece of bologna. The union labor cards, giving the name Jerry Casey and issued by Builders Union, No. 11, of Binghamton, N.Y. were found on his person which led to his identity . Among a number of other papers which were found in his pockets was a Sunday school card containing the well known scriptural quotation "The Lord is my Keeper", which was almost premonitory of his death. The sum of $5.50 and a few other valuables, which he carried, were turned over to Coroner Blackburn, who was called to view the body.
